چکیده

This paper presents and discusses user, account, and traffic management in a WLAN based HotSpot. The HotSpot is a large WLAN infrastructure at the Faculty of Science of the University of Trento, that uses a novel access management architecture named Uni-Fy developed at the University of Trento, and where roughly 20.000 users can have free access. The management scheme, named Uni-Fy, is based on the concept of Open Access Networks and manages the users access, privileges and traffic based on the users profiles and authentication provided by remote service providers, hence acting as an enabling factor rather than as an autonomous service itself. Finally we provide some measurements and experience based on nearly one year of operation.

A New Method for Clustering Wireless Sensor Networks to Improve the Energy Consumption

Clustering is an effective approach for managing nodes in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). A new method of clustering mechanism with using Binary Gravitational Search Algorithm (BGSA) in WSN, is proposed in this paper to improve the energy consumption of the sensor nodes. Reducing the energy consumption of sensors in WSNs is the objective of this paper that is through selecting the sub optimum se...

Avoiding energy-compromised hotspots in resource-limited wireless networks

The vast literature on the wireless sensor research community contains many valuable proposals for managing energy consumption, the most important factor that determines sensors lifetime. Interesting researches have been facing this requirement by focusing on the extension of the entire network lifetime: either by switching between node states (active, sleep), or by using energy efficient routi...

Identifying at Highway-Rail Grade Crossing Hotspots in Canada

This research presents a risk-based Hotspots identification model at highway-rail grade crossings in Canada. Two sets of models were developed to predict collision frequency and consequence at individual crossings. A two–dimensional graphic approach was adopted to combine these two models together to predict the risk at each crossing. Hotspots based on collision history tended to be widespread ...
